Ego Trip
A dreamlike and surrealist series focused on exploring scenes derived from life but taking place in the mind. The figures are inspired by both ancient and modern mythologies and are set in environments pulled from memories of growing up in the Southern United States.
Ego Trip: to dream a shaman’s dream
Ego Trip: to float on nomadic winds
But no one wins. // No one ever wins. // The existential washing machine, unconcerned life’s trifles, spins endlessly - churning new moment over old. // We who sit on the edge of lightning, unable to escape its thrill, blink and are born anew.
Ego Trip: do you see my wings? do you see my tail?
Bargain
dry winds carry heavy meaning / across hot lands forever dead / a frisbee is not a shovel / a trowel cannot unearth a van
long hours under parched skies / no shade offered nor found / a pit of soft sand swallows / feeding the starved land
my life for a piece of me / a bargain offered to the void
River Bath
This piece represents the growth and ancient pieces of knowledge found within natural spaces. Inspired by a lifetime of exploring woodlands and finding wild flora and fauna, this work attempts to capture the overwhelming feeling of finding oneself “alone” but never alone in nature.
Origin triptych
The three pieces that create the triptych “Origin” are meant to symbolize life, death, and rebirth. The works have been designed so that they may be shown in multiple sequences without fracturing the triptych as a whole. This allows for the same story to be presented in three different ways: noon / deified / reviver; reviver / noon / deified; and deified / reviver / noon
Restless Wanderer
Restless Wanderer utilizes traditional Christian symbolism fused with my personal experiences growing up in the American South. It is a meditation on my struggle to reconcile with my origins and the influence they have had on my identity.
