Poolscapes
This body of work examines mind-scapes within the illusion of the phenomenological world. They are born from a Whiteheadian metaphysical tradition and are meant to capture human presence in a way that more accurately aligns with the prevailing metaphysical theory of time; time series B. Our brains construct the ‘reality’ that we experience. Everything we experience is thus NOT reality with a capital ‘R’- rather it is always heavily filtered and mediated. Therefore there are potentially infinite amounts of energies and ‘things’ outside the realm of our limited scope of knowledge. These paintings then, aim to be as realistic if not more than the what our brains allow us to experience.
In this series I was interested in examining the action of jumping into a pool and what that action feels like devoid of this illusionary phenomenological realm we spend our time in. In keeping with the theory of time series B, actants are more akin to worms weaving through the multi-dimensional ‘tapestry,’ that is the universe, leaving trails of action as what we then experience as phenomenological reality. Thus these paintings are depictions of the echoes of actions left in this universal tapestry.
